A Japanese zero fighter was shot down and landed just off the reef in Umatac in 50 ft. It was rougnly located at the black spot above. This was a very popular dive site for many years, but typhoons gradually demolished the wreckage. I took this video ws taken in 1993. Tim Rock is the diver taking pictures.
These are pictures that were given to me but honestly I've forgotten who took them. They are probably from the late 60's.
A dummy was placed in the cockpit by some of the divers, and I remember there were 2-3 large lionfish that resided inside it.
More trivia. The picture below was used to identify the deep zero in 200' in Agat Bay. The headrest on the zero was very distinctive and was not used on any otherr Japanes plane. The deep plane had the same headrest.
