Many of us fondly remember flying on the Air Micronesia 727's. The first 2 were named Nuju and Juju and the cargo was primarily located in the first half of the plane. The passenger sectoin was behind the cargo, and the staris were at the back of the plane. It was truely a GREAT operation!
This film is an overview.
Air Micronesia SA-16 Seaplane taking off from Pohnpei and landing on Truk.
Air Mike DC-6 at Rota and Yap. The last part is Yap showing the small runway and the original grass shack that was used as the terminal. It's at the very end. I remember flying into this on the 727's and when the runway was wet the plane would slide a little due to the anti lock brakes. The crew bought bags of beetlnut in the shack for $5 and sold them in Palau for $10!
DC-6 at the Truk airport, first 727 there also. Taking off and landing in the water at Pohnpei.Tthe runwasy wasn't finished yet.
Original 727's taking off and landing at Yap, Palau and Truk. Mostly footage from inside the cockpit. I think the old Palau Continental hotel is the buidlins that the plane overflew. The coral runway at Truk is clearly visible.
Misc film taken from the 727's showing Pohnpei, Truk, and Guam briefly at the end.
